Custom shapes include round, oval and square.

Green manufacturing methods make this rug safe for children and pets. Unlike most other rug makers, Asmara never uses chemical washes. The soft color palette works in formal settings with fine furniture and antiques but it looks at home in an easy, relaxed costal property too. Linen covered furniture looks great on this rug and follows through with an elegant but relaxed look. And, we love this rug paired with a geometric companion rug or a sisal rug.

Please come by or call us for pricing and availability!

To be a bit more clear, Barclay’s beautiful sisals for Merida can now be found at Surroundings… and we couldn’t be happier. Brand new and just in time for the season, Barclays new sisal rugs are the epitome of chic when it comes to sisal rugs. The sporty stripes in this collection mix well with so many different looks from floral patterns and whimsical color palettes to minimal and tonal environs that just need a bit of texture to give them interest. Merida continues to push the envelope with interesting weaves and colors, sophisticated border choices ( and we love custom and making it just right for each client ) and now designer choices that really suit the way so many of our customers and clients live.

A technical advancement in the world of sisal has allowed from many of the new patterns from Barclay Butera to not require a banded edge at all. As many of you many already know sisal and sea-grass are very long wearing products, their durability is typically one of it’s selling features. The most perishable part of a natural woven areas rug is it’s border with many of the patterns in this collection no binding is necessary. Stop in and ask to seethe new designs, they can be ordered in standard sizes ( 3×5, 4×6, 5×7, 8×10 and 9×12 ) and custom sizes.

Look what were putting on the floor today! The Tilden sofa by Thomas O’Brien for Hickory Chair. One of O’Brien’s favorite refined casual looks, this shapely sofa has both the poise to be used in formal settings and the deep comfort desired of more everyday rooms. The classic fitted frame has a graceful arcing back and slender arms that slope down and flare out, for a gentle, delicate profile. A loose pillowback configuration adds a deep, leisurely elegance, and is based on an antique English sofa from O’Brien’s archives. Simple block feet uplift the base for a modern, clean silhouette. it’s available in 86” – thats what we have on the floor – length with two seat cushions or 96” length with three seat cushions, we chose a beautiful herringbone fabric in a loden green. This beauty won’t last long because it’s at home in traditional and contemporary designs and it’s SO comfortable!

The latest trend in rugs is over-dyed strong bright colors, old rugs and reproduction rugs are being dyed after being woven to produce an updated look with very traditional patterns. If you have a small rug and want to get in on the trend you could try doing it yourself with a RIT dye or you could buy a rug already dyed, but they are expensive… or you could buy a Mamluk rug.

Mamluk rugs typically have a more unique color pallette and feel like the over-dyed rugs being shown in home magazines and retailers, but are not put through the second dying process. Most Mamluks are reproductions of 14th century rugs produced during the Mamluk Dynasty in Egypt. Only about 100 antique examples survive in the world, some only fragments, so these wonderful recreations are quite unique and collectible in their own right. We are lucky enough to have a few Mamluks in stock right now at Surroundings. They look great in both warm weather and cold so they are well suited for homes in our area, come by and see them before they are gone.

There is a window treatment for every window. Some more tricky than others, some prettier than others, some more efficient than others. A natural roman shade is made from bamboo, grass, matchstick and many other natural materials and can be mounted inside or outside the window trim. ( the photos show an inside mount ) Relying on drapery panels for privacy requires a large amount of fabric and typically reduces the natural light significantly; However, when you layer a natural roman shade under stationary panels ( panels that are made to not open and close ) you can control privacy and still allow for some natural light and sometimes a view, depending on material chosen AND you usually can save on the overall cost of treatments. Personally, I just love the way they look. The added texture and color gives a finished, quality look… and there IS a material for every look… white painted matchstick for the cottage look, split bamboo mixes well with antiques and woven grass has a refined look. There are many quality vendors through Surroundings, come by or giver us a call… We’re here to help!

I have spent the last two days at a clients installing not one, not two but three bedrooms, all in preparation for a wedding at the family’s summer-house. We are talking area rugs, beds, bedding – custom of course – furniture, window treatments, lighting and art. Phew, you’d better bet I’m tired. These are snapshots I took with my iPhone, just wanted you to see what I’ve been working on. Thibaut Fabric, Stark rug, Clients antiques, had to believe these rooms were empty two days ago!

Most of the furniture belonged to the client. My job was to reuse as much as possible, but edit where necessary. I really should have taken some before pictures. All three bedrooms face the water but a deep overhang and keep the rooms protected from strong sun, so I made sure to choose bright and fresh feeling fabrics. Love the pattern in this room from Thibaut.

I put the darker coverlet on this bed to ensure this room didn’t look to feminine. Of course guest rooms should and will reflect the owner of the home, but visitors should feel comfortable in a room that isn’t too masculine or feminine. I think we found a good balance here with the checked rug, the dark furniture and rich coverlet mixed with that beautiful floral pattern by Thibaut.

We just recieved a new shipment of antique reproductions and we are loving the bright fresh colors. No one wants to see summer go, but with one ( or two, or three ) of these tables in your room there can be a fresh light feeling all year long. The small tables shown above make great coffee tables when they are grouped, and pull apart to service a large group or make room for dancing! Alongside a chair or sofa they are the perfect side table, and the best part?

…Because they are painted they seem to fit in just about everywhere, with many different styles and any wood tone. Come by and check them out but hurry, they are selling fast!
